Italian football has been shaken to its core, with defender Alessandro Bastoni at the center of a shocking investigation into alleged underage prostitution, as new details emerge that threaten to compromise both his club career and his position in the Italian national team.
Milan prosecutors have confirmed that Bastoni, a key figure for Inter Milan and the Italian national team, is officially under investigation after being implicated in an inquiry targeting an events company accused of providing underage girls to VIP clients. The investigation alleges that Bastoni, currently 25 years old, was linked to an incident that occurred in 2020, in which he allegedly maintained sexual contacts with a 17-year-old girl through a luxury events agency. Wiretaps and intercepted communications, published by Italian media, reportedly show Bastoni discussing plans to meet the minor after a lavish dinner in the municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, on the outskirts of Milan.
This explosive case is part of a larger operation against an alleged network that organized so-called “all-inclusive” nights for celebrities and athletes in the most exclusive circles of Milan. According to prosecutors, the events company, currently under intense judicial scrutiny, provided private apartments specifically to facilitate paid encounters between wealthy clients and underage girls. In one of the intercepted conversations, a public relations representative from the agency allegedly sent Bastoni the following message: “I think the girl wants to sleep with you. I think she wants to have some fun.” Bastoni allegedly responded: “Is there somewhere we can hide?” To which the public relations representative replied: “We'll figure something out. In the worst case, you can take her to your house.” According to the prosecution, the young girl was induced into prostitution on July 11, 2020. However, during a recent testimony as a witness, the young girl stated that, although she had been at Bastoni's house, no sexual act occurred.
The allegations have caused a real earthquake in Italian football, where Bastoni is simultaneously one of the emerging stars of the defense and a figure often embroiled in controversies. The timing could hardly be worse. The Italian national team is still recovering from a disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign, during which Bastoni was sent off early in a decisive defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina, generating strong criticism. The reaction was immediate, with fans and commentators pointing to his red card as one of the main factors for the failure to qualify for the tournament's final stage. The defender's reputation took another hit earlier this year during an intense Inter-Juventus match, where Bastoni was widely accused of simulation. His theatrical fall, which led to the unjust expulsion of Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, was seen as a stain on his sporting behavior. Although Bastoni later apologized, fans and critics once again questioned the sportsmanship of a player whom many viewed as a future leader of the club and the national team.
In light of this turbulent scenario, Bastoni's legal team reacted quickly to deny any wrongdoing. His lawyer, Salvatore Scuto, issued a categorical statement: “I can exclude that my client has ever paid for sex, let alone that he has had sexual relations with minors.” Under Italian law, engaging in sexual relations with individuals between the ages of 14 and 18 in exchange for money or any other benefit—received or merely promised—is punishable by imprisonment for one to six years, further increasing the gravity of the situation for the Italian international.

O MUNDIAL 2026 VIVE-SE COM A LEGO
The consequences of these revelations are only just beginning. The image of Bastoni, already weakened by recent controversies on the field, now faces an existential threat off the pitch. Inter Milan, confronted with a situation that could define their entire season, will have to decide whether to continue supporting the player or to distance themselves while the legal process unfolds. The Italian Football Federation will closely monitor the progress of the investigation, fully aware that another scandal could deepen the wounds of a country still grappling with the pain of missing out on the biggest stage in world football.
As the investigation continues, there remain more questions than answers: will prosecutors be able to gather enough evidence to bring charges? Will witnesses or new wiretaps reveal an even broader network of complicity among prominent figures in Italian football? And if Bastoni is eventually exonerated, can he rebuild his reputation in light of such serious allegations? One thing is certain: the next chapter of this case will be followed with a mix of apprehension, fascination, and outrage by fans across Italy and far beyond its borders.
