Novak Djokovic once again left the tennis world in shock as he dispatched Stefanos Tsitsipas with a display of pure dominance, ruthlessly securing his passage to the third round of Wimbledon. The Serbian, holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, proved once more why he is considered one of the greatest in history by defeating the Greek with scores of 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2, in a match that has previously decided finals at Roland Garros and the Australian Open. This time, Djokovic left no room for doubt and controlled every crucial moment from the first serve to the last point.
No central court, Djokovic proved to be relentless whenever the game demanded it, especially at break points. In the first set, a break in the fourth game was enough for him to never lose control again. In the second set, Tsitsipas dramatically missed an accessible break point and watched as the Serbian responded with an extraordinary defense, securing the break in the ninth game and, with it, the set. In the final set, he only needed to accelerate from the fifth game onwards to ensure that victory was never in doubt. It was a display of strength from Djokovic, who continues to show why Wimbledon may very well be his stage for glory once again this year.

This victory holds particular significance in a tournament where surprises have been the rule rather than the exception, both in the men's and women's draws. Djokovic, who is seeking his eighth title at Wimbledon, reinforces his status as the favorite and shows that, despite the physical doubts that lingered before the tournament, he is fit to face all opponents. The Serbian did not hide his satisfaction with his performance, stating at the end of the match: “I feel better and better. I am playing with confidence and managing the decisive moments well. This court is special to me.” His words make it clear that the champion is not willing to relinquish his throne anytime soon.
On the men's side, Daniil Medvedev also secured his spot in the third round, albeit with much more difficulty. The Russian, a two-time semifinalist at Wimbledon, had to work hard to defeat Daniel Merida Aguilar with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, and 6-2. Medvedev acknowledged after the victory: “It was a tough test. At the beginning, I wasn’t comfortable, but I managed to adjust my game and in the end, I felt I had control.” The consistency of the Russian may be tested in the upcoming matches, but he is yet another heavyweight name moving forward.
João Fonseca, surprising many, also advances to the third round after a decisive victory over Jesper De Jong, with scores of 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. The young tennis player shows that he is ready to face the world elite. Felix Auger-Aliassime had no trouble overcoming Dino Prizmic with scores of 7-6, 6-3, 7-5, solidifying his position among the favorites for an upset.
In the women's draw, the shock was complete with the early elimination of Mirra Andreeva, the recent champion of Roland Garros. The Russian prospect fell to Czech player Barbora Krejcikova, the 2024 Wimbledon champion, who reversed the match to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. After the turnaround, Krejcikova emphasized: “I knew I had to fight until the end. Wimbledon is special for me, and I always want to go further.” This elimination further opens up the field of contenders for the title.
Jessica Pegula confirmed her status as the favorite and advanced to the third round by defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-6, 6-1, keeping alive her hopes of winning her first Grand Slam. Coco Gauff, on the other hand, experienced a true nightmare before saving herself in extremis against Solana Sierra, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) after coming back from a 3-5 deficit in the final set. Gauff admitted to feeling nervous after the match: “I was battling with myself, but I never stopped believing. The crowd gave me an extra boost to get this win.”
With Djokovic performing at an unreachable level and surprises shaking up the women's draw, Wimbledon is becoming a true stage of emotions and uncertainties. The Serbian remains the top favorite, but the pressure increases with each round — and with names like Medvedev, Auger-Aliassime, and Fonseca advancing, anything is possible. In the women's draw, the elimination of Andreeva and Gauff's dramatic survival suggest unpredictable matchups and unexpected finals. The tournament is now entering a crucial phase, where the favorites will be tested to their limits and every mistake could cost them the dream of the most coveted title in world tennis.
