Nuno Borges explodes back into the Top 50 world rankings at a crucial moment ahead of Roland Garros! The Portuguese tennis player, who has been carving out his space in the elite of international tennis, marked a crucial rise in the ATP rankings this Monday, returning to the coveted group of the 50 best players in the world. This achievement comes just as the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros, approaches, where expectations are running high.

Despite the stability at the top of the rankings, the competitive landscape continues to shift. Jannik Sinner remains firmly at the world number one spot after being crowned champion in Rome, becoming the second Italian player to win a Masters 1,000 title in the Italian capital since 1976 – a historic milestone that has placed the young prodigy at the pinnacle of global tennis. Norwegian Casper Ruud, his opponent in the final, also made significant gains, climbing eight places to now occupy the 17th position, demonstrating that the battle for the top is becoming increasingly fierce.

Following the Italian dominance, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz remains just behind Sinner in second place, followed by the German Alexander Zverev and the legendary Serbian Novak Djokovic, one of the few to have dominated all nine Masters 1,000 events throughout his career. Daniil Medvedev also capitalized on his strong performance in Rome, rising from ninth to seventh place, while Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur had to concede positions, dropping to eighth and ninth respectively. The Kazakh Alexander Bublik returned to the top 10, matching his best-ever ranking.

The national landscape also records remarkable progress. Francisco Cabral rises two positions in the doubles ranking, reaching 21st place, while in singles, Nuno Borges shines in 50th place. In addition to him, Jaime Faria and Henrique Rocha gain ground, moving up to 117th and 118th places, respectively, while Frederico Silva advances to 235th place. These players are preparing to take action in the qualifying rounds of Roland Garros, in an attempt to join their teammate Borges in the main draw. Faria faces the experienced Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (170th), Rocha goes up against the Hungarian Zsombor Piros (175th), and Silva competes against the Argentine Federico Agustin Gómez (181st).

In the women’s circuit, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka maintains her lead in the WTA rankings, followed by Kazakh Elena Rybakina and Polish Iga Swiatek, who is in third place. Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, champion in Rome, rises to seventh place, reinforcing her position among the best in the world. Portuguese players Francisca Jorge and Matilde Jorge, both competing in the qualifying round in Paris, occupy the 205th and 251st spots, respectively, experiencing a slight drop compared to the previous week. Francisca Jorge will face Chinese player You Xiaodi, who has climbed 19 places to the 175th position, while Matilde Jorge will take on American Elvina Kalieva, ranked 135th.

The Roland Garros qualifying begins today, with hopes for a promising debut in the tournament and the expectation that Portugal will have several players in the main draw, which starts on Sunday. This is the moment for Portuguese tennis to shine on the biggest global stage, with Nuno Borges leading the charge towards a historic achievement. Get ready for a week of intense emotions and great surprises on the clay courts of Paris!
