Robert MacIntyre explodes at the Masters: obscene gesture leaves Augusta in shock!

The Masters at Augusta kicked off with great intensity, but it was Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre who became the center of attention — and not for the best reasons. The young talent, one of the favorites for the title, completely lost his cool on the 15th hole of the first round and made an obscene gesture that is making headlines worldwide. In a tournament where the pressure is at its peak, MacIntyre showed the most explosive side of a golfer, leaving fans and critics in shock.

The heated moment occurred on Thursday, April 9, during the early stages of the most iconic tournament on the golf calendar. After a series of difficulties on the Augusta National course, MacIntyre could not contain his frustration and displayed his middle finger on hole 15 — a gesture captured on video and quickly going viral on social media. User Gamliel Rosado shared the footage on his X (formerly Twitter) account, captioning it: “@bobdoessports Rob MacIntyre is all of us, flipping the bird on the 15th hole #masters #golf.”

The Scotsman’s performance started promisingly: a birdie on the third hole and a hopeful start to the round. However, from hole five onwards, everything fell apart. Two consecutive bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes, followed by a double bogey on the ninth, left MacIntyre in trouble. As he returned to the final stretch, the outlook remained bleak: another double bogey on the 15th hole, culminating in a bogey on the 17th, closing the day with an 8-over 80, a result far below expectations for a contender at the top.

While MacIntyre struggled with nerves and the course, defending champion Rory McIlroy shone with a solid round of 67, sharing the lead with Sam Burns. Kurt Kitayama, Jason Day, and Patrick Reed are close behind, all at 3 under par, in a tight battle for tournament dominance.

It is worth noting that before this setback in Augusta, Robert MacIntyre was on a high. At the Valero Texas Open, he showcased top-quality golf, finishing tied for second with rounds of 66, 64, 72, and 70. Although he missed out on victory by a narrow margin, the Scot demonstrated that he was in form for great achievements. At last month’s Players Championship, MacIntyre had his ups and downs, yet still managed a solo fourth place, sharing an honest reflection on social media about the challenges of golf: “Gutted with the finish, but that’s golf. Some days you’re the dog, others you’re the lamp. Being in the fight on a Sunday at an iconic course is why we play golf.”

The start of the 2026 season was also promising for MacIntyre, with a T4 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, followed by a T38 at The American Express, T20 at the Genesis Invitational, and T24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, the Masters is proving to be a tough test for this talented Scot.

With this explosion of anger in Augusta, Robert MacIntyre sends a clear message: golf can be elegant, but it is also a fierce emotional battle. Will this episode be a turning point for the Scot, or just the beginning of a crisis at the Masters? The world of golf is on edge!
