Carlos Alcaraz faces a significant challenge at the US Open, with concerns emerging about his physical condition. Following a prolonged absence due to injuries and with his rival Jannik Sinner out of the tournament because of a right knee injury, doubts about the form of the young Spanish tennis player are growing. Although he is confirmed for the competition, questions about his preparation and ability to compete at the highest level intrigue experts.

Alcaraz, who has not competed since April due to a wrist injury, is now returning to action at Flushing Meadows, where he will not only be one of the participants in the singles draw but will also compete in mixed doubles alongside the iconic Serena Williams. British commentator David Law expressed his concern about the speed of Alcaraz's return, suggesting it might have been wiser for him to aim for the Australian Open. “I hope there has been caution,” Law said on The Tennis Podcast. “It would be fascinating to know how close he was to playing other major tournaments, as he must have missed being on court.”

Concerns extend beyond Alcaraz's physical condition to his form as well. Since his last competitive appearance, the 23-year-old tennis player may need time to readjust to the intense pace of competition. He currently holds the third position in the world rankings, but an early exit at the US Open could result in a significant loss of points, as he is defending the title he won the previous year.

Alcaraz finds himself in a delicate position, with 7,160 points in his account. A first-round exit would mean an immediate loss of 1,990 points, putting him at risk of being surpassed by world number 4, Felix Auger-Aliassime. To keep his hopes of reclaiming the top spot in the rankings alive by the end of the year, it will be crucial for Alcaraz to deliver a solid performance in the tournament.

With all these uncertainties, fans are eagerly awaiting to see if Alcaraz can overcome his challenges and make a deep run at the US Open, a tournament that is particularly dear to him. The pressure is on, and expectations are high to see if the young prodigy can shine once again, despite the adversities.
