Alexander Bublik Shakes Up the Tennis World with Explosive Statements: “Goodbye? That Would Be a Total Disaster!”
In the professional tennis circuit, few voices are as direct and surprising as that of Alexander Bublik. The Kazakh player, currently among the best in the world, did not hesitate to dismiss any notion of a grand farewell, distancing himself from the traditional mold followed by figures like Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka. He made these comments at a press conference in Monte Carlo, shortly after an epic victory against Monfils, who bid farewell to the audience in the Principality.
Bublik did not hold back in his words, confirming that a “farewell season” is not part of his plans. “We talked about this recently, but for me, it would be a disaster. When I have fun, it’s because I’m playing tennis my way, hitting a one-handed backhand in the middle of the court. In Miami, when it was raining, I was the only one training in the rain because I enjoyed hitting the ball at a slower pace. I laughed about it with my coach,” revealed the 28-year-old player, who is experiencing one of the best moments of his career, having even entered the world top 10—a position he recently lost due to the meteoric rise of Daniil Medvedev.
The reason? Bublik is categorical and has no doubts: “A farewell season would be a disaster because I would end up being defeated by any player. I prefer to play some exhibitions on the most important courts of my career. Because, honestly, can you imagine me at 37 years old fighting against a 20-year-old Spaniard on clay? It would be a horrible series of defeats.”
Respect and emotion were also present in his words dedicated to Gael Monfils, his long-time opponent and friend: “I have many memories with Gael, especially those encounters in Grand Slams where he defeated me decisively (laughs). In this match, however, I didn’t laugh at all because I knew that if I lost concentration for even a moment, Gael would take advantage. The mission today was to give everything and win. It was quite emotional, as 10 years ago I was sparring with Gael and Grigor; I played a lot with them. A decade later, being here playing against him in his last season, in a match like this, is simply fantastic.”
His connection to the local community was also highlighted: “I have been living in Monaco for a few years and I know a lot of people. I am happy to start the season on clay this way, on such an iconic stage.”
Alexander Bublik thus confirms that he is not looking for melancholic farewells nor is he willing to succumb to the weight of the years. On the contrary, the Kazakh promises to continue fighting and surprising, maintaining his irreverent style and passion for the game. One thing is for sure: the circuit will still hear a lot from him, and it will not be on a farewell tour, but rather at the peak of his competitive ability. The season promises!
