And here’s the bombshell that could change everything: a report from the Uruguayan newspaper El Pais suggests that Manchester United could reduce the cost of Tonali’s transfer through a swap deal involving Manuel Ugarte, the Uruguayan midfielder who is also of interest to Newcastle.
It is worth noting that in the winter transfer market, Newcastle attempted to acquire Ugarte, but the Red Devils rejected the offer, believing it was not the right time to sell the 24-year-old player. However, after two disappointing seasons and failing to meet expectations, the club at Old Trafford may finally be open to negotiating Ugarte this summer.
Moreover, there are strong rumors linking Ugarte to Juventus, but Eddie Howe’s interest in Ugarte could open doors for a swap that lowers the asking price for Tonali and facilitates the operation.
