Uncertain future for Lukaku at Napoli after missing training.

The situation of Romelu Lukaku in Naples has reached a critical point, with the Belgian forward facing an uncertain future after failing to attend today’s scheduled training session. The 32-year-old player, who had been withdrawn from the Belgium national team’s squad for friendly matches against the United States and Mexico due to injury concerns, has left the Italian club on high alert.

Lukaku’s absence has sparked a furious reaction from Napoli’s management, which issued an official statement: “Napoli can confirm that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call to return to training. The club reserves the right to consider taking appropriate disciplinary measures, in addition to determining whether the player will continue training with the team for an indefinite period.”

Recently, the forward has been facing serious injury issues, having played only 40 minutes this season, spread over five matches, in which he scored just one goal. This performance stands in stark contrast to his crucial contribution in last season’s Scudetto campaign, where he found the net 14 times.

In defense of his decision to remain in Belgium during the international break, Lukaku explained on social media: “The truth is that in recent weeks I haven’t felt well physically and I underwent tests while I was in Belgium, which revealed inflammation and fluid in my hip flexor muscle, near the scar tissue. As this is the second issue I’ve had since I returned in early November, I chose to do my rehabilitation in Belgium so I can help when called upon. I could never turn my back on Napoli, never. There’s nothing I would like more than to play and win with my team. But at this moment, I need to ensure that I am clinically at 100%.”

The situation brings to light uncertainties regarding Lukaku’s future at the club. His contract with Napoli expires next summer, but it is likely that the management will seek a way out for the player at the end of the season, especially considering his recurring injury problems. Lukaku has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona, which is looking for alternatives to Robert Lewandowski, but the likelihood of the Catalans agreeing to pay the wages of a player with such a problematic injury history seems remote.

A more viable destination could be a transfer to a club in Saudi Arabia or Qatar, where the financial conditions may facilitate his signing. What seems certain is that Lukaku’s future in Naples is at stake and the pressure is mounting, both from the club and the fans who are eager to see their idol back on the pitch in top form.
