Carragher criticizes Liverpool players: They can’t handle the pressure in difficult moments.

A recent performance by Liverpool left much to be desired, and former player and Reds icon, Jamie Carragher, did not hesitate to criticize the team’s display after the 1-1 draw against Tottenham, who are currently struggling in the Premier League. The match, held at Anfield, saw Liverpool take the lead with a direct free kick from Dominik Szoboszlai, but the joy was short-lived, as Richarlison equalized in the 90th minute.

Carragher, analyzing his former team’s performance on Sky Sports, was blunt: “It was a horrible performance. No disrespect to Tottenham, but they are the worst team in the Premier League at the moment, probably for the last few months. They are exactly the team you want to face at home, especially with the motivation of the weekend’s results in your favor, and to put in a display like that is concerning. But that has been the pattern throughout the season.”

The former central defender questioned the manager’s capability and the composition of the squad: “The big question everyone is asking is whether this is down to the coach or the makeup of the squad. Could a new manager revitalize these players and bring back the energy and intensity the team needs? I’m not sure.” Carragher also pointed to the signings made during the summer, stating that “there are many players who only want to play when the ball is at their feet. They don’t want to sweat and make things difficult. That’s why it becomes so easy to play against this Liverpool team.”

Regarding Richarlison’s equalizing goal, Carragher did not hesitate to say that “it had been feeling like it was going to happen. Throughout the second half, I said that Liverpool was ‘dreaming’ about this result. And it was always him, he was Tottenham’s most dangerous player. Liverpool simply did not contest the long ball.” He also criticized Andy Robertson, who “did not challenge the long hopeful pass. He jumps, stays in the middle, and is not sure where Van Dijk is going — he does not react quickly enough and, from there, Liverpool becomes disorganized.”

Carragher concluded his analysis with a touch of frustration: “But I can’t say that Tottenham didn’t deserve it. They had chances in the game, most of them fell to this player, but this was undoubtedly the best.” Virgil van Dijk’s fury after Tottenham’s goal was expected, but Carragher emphasized: “This was already predictable… so obvious. As I said, you can’t say that Tottenham didn’t deserve it.”

What’s next for Liverpool? The persistent doubt about the squad’s capability and the manager’s leadership is now in the spotlight, as the team faces an urgent need to regain its form and confidence in a championship that promises to become increasingly challenging.
