Tiger Woods talks about the challenges of fatherhood as Charlie chooses a college.

Paternity, even for a golf legend like Tiger Woods, is a challenge that doesn’t become easier with 15 major championship titles. This truth was revealed by Max Homa, a young player who had the opportunity to spend time with Woods and understand that behind the myth, there is a man who faces the same frustrations and joys of fatherhood that many of us do. In a candid conversation, Homa shared details about how his relationship with Woods goes far beyond golf, focusing on more personal and relevant themes.

“The most interesting thing about getting to know Tiger is that we talk about various things. It’s not just golf. Sometimes I ask him about the sport, but most of the time we talk about the Dodgers, about our kids, and parenting advice,” Homa revealed during a conversation with Adams. He emphasized that the simplicity of their dialogues makes the relationship even more authentic, showing an unexpected side of the public figure that many admire.

Woods is the father of Charlie, who at 17 made an important decision by verbalizing his commitment to Florida State University, standing out as the 21st in the AJGA rankings and the 9th in the class of 2027. This path, distinct from that of his brother Sam, who is a freshman at Stanford, demonstrates Woods’ ability to support his children in their own journeys. Homa observed this family balance, reflecting on the difficulty that even an icon like Woods faces in raising his children.

“I’m just at the beginning of this phase, and it’s fascinating to imagine where my kids might go. It’s all part of the frustrating work of being a dad — and knowing that, even for Tiger, it must be challenging,” Homa added, highlighting the vulnerability that many parents feel.

Homa’s journey with Woods began in an admirable way. Growing up in Valencia, California, he followed Woods at the 1998 Genesis Invitational and, years later, had the honor of winning the same tournament in 2021, an event that Woods now hosts. The transition from fan to competitor is something Homa still reflects on, especially during the TGL matches at the SoFi Center. “Talking about golf and hearing his stories is incredible. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to believe I’m greeting the reason I play golf,” Homa confessed.

This year, the Jupiter Links team reached the playoffs of the second season of the TGL, with Homa standing out as the top scorer in several matches. His recent performance, where he made a crucial putt, symbolizes his evolution from a fan to an active competitor in the golf scene.

However, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Homa. In 2024, his pursuit of more speed resulted in inconsistent performances, causing him to drop from fifth place in the world rankings to outside the top 100. After a series of challenges, he returned to his coach Mark Blackburn, who had kept the door open for his return. Blackburn’s faith in Homa was a key factor in his recovery. “I’m still dealing with some consequences of poor performances, but I’m playing better now,” Homa said, showing signs of recovery.

With Charlie preparing for his new journey at Florida State and Sam already at Stanford, Tiger Woods, a figure who once seemed unattainable, now openly shares the challenges of being a father. For Homa, meeting Woods meant closely observing both the extraordinary and the everyday side of a sports icon. This story is not just about golf, but about the complexities of fatherhood that we all face, regardless of our success.
