“What Carlos Alcaraz does that Andy Murray never did, surprising revelation from mother Judy.”

Carlos Alcaraz is redefining what it means to be a champion in the world of tennis, and a recent revelation from Andy Murray’s mother, Judy, sheds light on a crucial difference between the two athletes. While Murray is widely recognized as one of the greatest players of all time, his approach to life and sport may have been very different from that of Alcaraz, who is just 22 years old and has already captured hearts and titles around the globe.

Murray, who shone alongside legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, has accumulated three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, and 41 weeks at the top of the world rankings. However, Judy Murray revealed that her son never allowed himself the freedom that Alcaraz seems to embrace with enthusiasm. In a candid conversation with the Tennis Insider Club, she highlighted how Alcaraz’s mindset is refreshing and necessary. “I really enjoyed watching Carlos Alcaraz. He thinks, ‘I’m going to Ibiza because I’m celebrating with my friends,’ or ‘I’m going to play golf.’ I love that! Because there’s more to life than just tennis, and the schedule is so tight now, there’s so little room to enjoy,” Judy said.

She continued to reflect on her own experience as the mother of an elite athlete, revealing that Andy regrets not having taken a more relaxed approach during his career. “And I know one of the things Andy said after his career was that he wished he had had more time to enjoy the victories. You win on a Sunday, pack your bags, and leave that night! You don’t even have time to go out for dinner and celebrate. I think you need the fun things too, don’t you?”

Carlos Alcaraz, who has already established himself as one of the greatest players in tennis history, is the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam and the youngest to reach the number one spot in the world rankings. This year, Alcaraz started the 2026 season with an impressive performance, winning his first title at the Australian Open after defeating heavyweights like Alex de Minaur, Alexander Zverev, and Novak Djokovic. His victory in Doha at the ATP Qatar Open further solidified his position as a dominant force in tennis.

Now, Alcaraz is preparing for the Indian Wells Open, which will take place from March 4 to 15, where he will compete alongside stars such as Jannik Sinner, Djokovic, and Zverev. He will be seeking his third title of the 2026 season and his third trophy at Indian Wells, further solidifying his legacy in the sport. His life philosophy, which combines the pursuit of excellence in tennis with moments of celebration and fun, may be the key to his continued success and how future athletes will approach their careers.
