Cristiano Ronaldo, the iconic figure of world football, has just taken a bold step that promises to reverberate not only on the pitch but also within the structures of the sport. The Portuguese star has acquired a significant stake in the Spanish second division club, UD Almería, reinforcing his influence on the global football scene. This information was confirmed by Brunswick Group, a consultancy that represents Ronaldo himself, in a move that marks his ambition to impact football beyond the 90 minutes of play.
Ronaldo, who transferred to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2022, is now investing through his subsidiary CR7 Sports Investments, acquiring 25% of the shares in the Spanish club, which has been under Saudi ownership since 2015. In statements revealing his broader vision for the sport, Ronaldo said: “It has been a long-standing ambition of mine to contribute to football beyond the pitch. UD Almería is a Spanish club with solid foundations and clear growth potential.”
Almería, under the leadership of owner Mohamed Al-Khereiji, who took over the presidency in 2025, has been building an ambitious project. Al-Khereiji expressed enthusiasm for Ronaldo’s involvement, emphasizing: “We are very pleased that Cristiano has chosen our club to invest in. He knows the Spanish leagues very well and understands the potential of what we are building, both in terms of the team and the academy.”
Although the financial details of the transaction have not been revealed, Almería is currently in third place in the Spanish second division, having competed in the first division in the 2023-24 season. This acquisition not only symbolizes a new chapter in Ronaldo’s career, which is approaching the end of an exceptional trajectory, but also reflects his intention to shape the future of football.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Ronaldo continues to shine at Al-Nassr, where he has already scored 22 goals in 25 matches this season. Despite experiencing moments of frustration with his club’s transfer management, Ronaldo returned to the field in February after a brief hiatus, and has already netted four goals in three matches since then, establishing himself as one of the sport’s leading figures. The combination of his on-field experience and now as an investor promises to bring a new dynamic to football, especially regarding talent development and league competitiveness.
This strategic move not only solidifies Ronaldo’s position as a central figure in modern football but also opens doors for the transformation of clubs that seek not only victory but a strong and sustainable identity for the future.
