Real Madrid faces an injury crisis with a midfielder sidelined for two months.

Real Madrid is going through a real injury crisis, and the latest blow to the team is midfielder Dani Ceballos, who, according to recent reports, could be sidelined for up to two months. The injury, a calf tear, comes during an already challenging week for Ceballos, who made a timid entry on the field against Osasuna, where a serious mistake resulted in a drop in performance and a public apology on social media. Now, his absence is expected to extend well into April, leaving no room for an immediate response.

The loss of Ceballos, who has been a supporting player under the guidance of Álvaro Arbeloa, is not an isolated headache. The situation worsens with the confirmation that young prodigy Jude Bellingham may also be out of action for around two months. With these two absences, Arbeloa’s options are quickly dwindling, putting him in a difficult position.

The fight for stability in midfield is now a constant challenge for Arbeloa, who finds himself with only four natural options for the sector: Aurélien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Arda Güler. While this depth may seem sufficient at first glance, the reality on the pitch is quite different. Arbeloa has already been forced to adjust his formation, using central players in wide positions, such as Camavinga on the left and Valverde on the right, with Tchouaméni and Güler occupying the center of the field. With Ceballos out of the picture, the only viable alternative on the bench is the academy.

With the situation becoming more complicated, the coach will have to rely on promising young players like 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch, who has already been a frequent presence in the team, and 19-year-old Jorge Cestero, who is expected to be integrated into the team’s dynamics over the coming months. This is an undesirable tactical problem, especially at a time when Arbeloa’s capabilities as Madrid’s coach are being questioned.

The number of games Ceballos may miss is significant, with the possibility of being sidelined for up to 10 matches, depending on the performance of Real Madrid in the Champions League. The first challenge that Ceballos will watch from the stands will be the second playoff match against Benfica, where Madrid arrives with a 1-0 lead. The expectation is that the team will advance to the round of 16, where they are set to face Manchester City or Sporting CP, but both matches will come too soon for Ceballos and Bellingham.

Only in mid-April, during the Champions League quarter-finals, will Ceballos be in a position to return as an option. During this period, Real Madrid will also have to face at least six La Liga matches, including a crucial clash against Atlético de Madrid at the end of March. The pressure is mounting as the team tries to remain competitive on multiple fronts while dealing with an injury crisis that could determine their fate this season.
