Carlos Alcaraz continues to dominate the tennis circuit, extending his lead in the ATP rankings after an impressive victory at the Qatar Open. The young Spanish prodigy, who has already claimed seven Grand Slam titles, not only maintained his unbeaten start to the 2026 season but also solidified his position as the world number one with a staggering advantage of over 3,000 points ahead of second-placed Jannik Sinner.
At just 20 years old, Alcaraz added another accolade to his career by defeating Arthur Fils in a swift final that lasted only 52 minutes, securing his 26th title. With this victory, he earned 400 points for his ATP Rankings total, subtracting 100 points from his participation last year, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Now, with a total of 13,550 points, Alcaraz stands on a pedestal of his own, while Sinner, who fell in the quarter-finals against Jakub Mensik, languishes in second place with 10,400 points.
“Being in first place is a dream come true for me. I feel like I’m playing the best tennis of my life,” declared Alcaraz, who is now on the verge of completing 16 consecutive weeks as number one. If he maintains this pace, he will hold an unassailable position until at least the end of March, nearing Sinner’s historic mark, who ranks 13th on the all-time list.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner, the current Wimbledon champion, remains comfortably ahead of third-placed Novak Djokovic, who has opted not to compete in Qatar. Alexander Zverev, in fourth place, is 755 points behind the Serbian. The battle for fourth place in the ATP Rankings is fierce, with Zverev and ninth-placed Ben Shelton separated by just 505 points.
Regarding other highlights in the rankings, Jakub Mensik has made a meteoric rise, moving up three positions to a new personal best of number 13, following his impressive run to the semifinals in Doha. In contrast, Andrey Rublev found himself at a disadvantage, falling four places to 18th after being eliminated by Alcaraz in the semifinals.
Arthur Fils, with a remarkable performance finishing as the runner-up, climbed six places to 34th. Meanwhile, Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry made an impressive leap of 18 places, reaching 33rd after winning his first title at the Rio Open, where he defeated Alejandro Tabilo in the final. The latter also had a noteworthy performance, rising 26 positions to 42nd.
At the Delray Beach Open, Sebastian Korda also celebrated by claiming his third ATP trophy, overcoming compatriot Tommy Paul in the final. Korda, who has previously reached 15th place, has risen again, now occupying 40th, while Paul moved up to 22nd.
Nonetheless, Alexandre Muller and Sebastian Baez were the biggest losers among the top 100, with Muller dropping 26 places to 78th and Baez falling 20 positions to now sit at 52nd.
