Flavio Cobolli has made history again at Wimbledon by securing a place in the quarter-finals, repeating his achievement from 2025. The Italian tennis player, who had already surprised the tennis world with his recent appearance in the final of Roland Garros, raised his level on the London grass and claimed a commanding victory over Alex de Minaur, without dropping a single set.
The match was marked by intense balance in the first set, where De Minaur only offered one break point in the third game, keeping the score tight until 5-5. Cobolli, for his part, was impeccable on serve and capitalized on an excellent eleventh game in response, coming back from 0-40 and taking his fourth opportunity to close the set at 7-5. In the following two sets, the Australian from Sydney tried to respond, even taking a break lead in both, but Cobolli's resilience and superiority proved decisive.

In the second set, after securing a break to lead 2-1, Cobolli saw De Minaur respond and turn the score to 2-5, but the Italian did not falter. A break without losing points restored his confidence (5-5), and he won the tie-break 7-4. In the third set, De Minaur took an early lead of 2-0 and then 3-2, always with a break advantage, but Cobolli remained composed, broke his opponent's serve twice, and closed out the match 6-3, after 2 hours and 35 minutes.
Cobolli's performance becomes even more significant considering De Minaur's journey in the first week of the tournament, where the Australian had impressed and shown great consistency. The Italian proved not only to be up to the challenge but also capable of surpassing himself in decisive moments, especially after facing difficulties in the opening rounds.
In 2025, in the quarter-finals, Flavio Cobolli faced Novak Djokovic. This time, after securing his first victory against a top 10 player on the grass of London, he enters as the favorite for the next match, awaiting the outcome of the encounter on Centre Court between Grigor Dimitrov and the British Arthur Fery — the latter had already caused him a defeat earlier in the season at the Australian Open.
With this display, Cobolli strengthens his bid for the title and places himself in the spotlight as one of the protagonists of the London Major. The next challenge could represent not only a chance for revenge against Fery, should he be the opponent, but also the opportunity to continue nurturing the dream of an unprecedented victory at Wimbledon.
