The transfer of young Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United to Napoli is set to be finalized, and according to the Neapolitan club’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, it is merely a “formality.” The 22-year-old player, who joined the Red Devils for an investment of £72 million, made a significant impact during his loan season with the Serie A champions, scoring an impressive nine goals.
Recently, Hojlund celebrated a significant achievement by winning the Italian Supercup, sharing an image on social media with the revealing caption: “What a great decision looks like.” This statement not only reflects his happiness in Naples but also underscores his intention to continue at the club.
In statements made to the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Manna did not hesitate to assert that Hojlund’s stay at Napoli is practically guaranteed: “Today, I believe so,” he said, referring to the forward’s future. Manna also revealed that, despite interest from other prestigious clubs, Hojlund’s desire was crucial for the completion of the deal: “We did everything we could to sign him. He was at the center of our attention, and we are proud of that.”
Hojlund’s transfer includes an obligation to buy clause, stipulating that Napoli must pay £38 million, provided they qualify for the Champions League. Currently, Antonio Conte’s team sits in third place in Serie A, putting them in a strong position to secure their spot in the European competition.
Despite having scored only four goals last season with Manchester United, Hojlund expressed a strong desire to remain at the club. However, the arrival of new signings such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo has left the Dane with less space in the squad.
Manna emphasized the connection that Hojlund feels for the club: “The player considers himself an athlete of Napoli, and we see him that way too. This is extremely important.” As the forward’s future unfolds in Italy, Napoli fans can hardly wait to see what lies ahead for this young talent who has already won a place in the hearts of supporters.
