Alexandra Eala bid farewell to Wimbledon after a dream campaign, concluding her adventure in the round of 16 against Jasmine Paolini, in an electrifying match decided by 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on the iconic Centre Court. Facing a highly formidable opponent, the young Filipina was unable to counter the momentum of the Italian, who secured her place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam, under the watchful eye of Roger Federer.
Eala's confidence was high after eliminating the defending champion in a stunning display, surviving set points and securing a victory filled with emotion. Prior to this, she had already defeated Renata Zarazua and Maya Joint, boosting her record of wins in Grand Slam tournaments and establishing herself as one of the sensations of this edition. The Filipino player's journey, who reached her first WTA final in Eastbourne last year, marked a new milestone by reaching the round of 16 in a major for the first time.

In the aftermath of her elimination, Eala expressed pride in the journey she has taken. In a press conference, she shared: “It was a very challenging match today. I think Jasmine played very well. I gave everything I had. I did everything I could do today, so I am proud of that. I have to be proud of what I achieved this week. I leave here with positive thoughts.”
Despite the setback, Eala emphasized the lessons learned from this experience. “There are so many positive aspects,” she acknowledged. “One of the things I highlight is how I dealt with the pressure. There is pressure every week, right? Of course, the more we want to win, the more pressure we feel. I am satisfied with how I faced it head-on. I think I kept my composure when I needed to control my emotions. Overall, I did my best today.”
When asked about the impact of this performance, Eala stressed: “I think this week, overall, will contribute to my confidence. I mean, if this week doesn't contribute… It was one of my best results, right? Of course, it will add to my confidence. It is important that in every match I play, I enter with self-esteem and the mindset that I am capable of winning.”
Comparing the feelings between her victory over Swiatek and the match against Paolini, the tennis player admitted: “Of course, there are things I would have liked to have done differently. But in the end, that is tennis. What is beautiful about tennis is that every match is different; we are always finding solutions, and the opponent is always trying to disrupt us. I think Jasmine did that very well today. She took risks at the right moments and made me feel uncomfortable at certain stages of the match.”
Regarding her technical performance, Eala did not hide her dissatisfaction with her service: “I think my serve wasn't as good today as in other matches. But there are days like that. We all have days when we don't play our best tennis. I understand that it's part of the job. I don't expect to play the best tennis of my life every day. With that in mind, I'm very proud of how I handled things. I just have to keep moving forward and evolving.”
Emotion was also a topic in the post-match analysis. Eala confessed: “I had to manage my emotions. I think it's also beautiful to be able to release emotions when we feel them, to have that moment. It's part of professionalism. This isn't the first time I've had a big win and then had to play two days later.” She also emphasized that her preparation was not affected: “I prepared very well for this match. There are many factors that contributed to today's outcome. Yesterday, I was very focused on preparing for today. Now that I'm out of the tournament, after processing the loss, I might feel those emotions again.”

At 21, Eala continues her rise in the world of tennis. On the challenges of reaching the elite, she explained: “In tennis, the details make all the difference, especially in close matches. Sometimes everything is decided in one or two points. The important thing is how we manage ourselves in those moments. I can only do my best.” She added: “There are many external factors that we cannot control. I can't control how my opponent plays, whether it's windy, hot, or cold. I can only control how I approach those situations. If I do it with courage, a calm mind, and intensity, I can look back without regrets.”
Alexandra Eala's journey at Wimbledon 2026 will be remembered as a significant leap in her career, hinting at a promising future for the young tennis player.
