Henderson confirmed on social media this Tuesday that the surgery was successful: “Surgery done! Let's get ready for the big game on Saturday,” he wrote on Instagram. The English international did not forget to acknowledge those who supported him during this difficult time, publicly thanking: “Thank you to all the staff who looked after me at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. Especially to the three surgeons who performed the operation.”
Despite the setback, the 36-year-old player will remain with the team throughout the competition, accompanying his teammates as they prepare for the quarter-final clash against Norway, scheduled for Saturday in Miami. Henderson had already made history in this World Cup by becoming the first English footballer to compete in four different finals, after being brought on as a substitute in England's 2-0 victory over Panama in the group stage.
