Jordan Henderson suffered one of the most unusual injuries of this World Cup: he broke his arm during the celebrations of England's victory over Mexico on Sunday and has already undergone surgery in the United States. The Brentford midfielder, who did not play in that match, fell dramatically while attempting to jump over the advertising barriers at the side of the pitch, ultimately being carried off on a stretcher and receiving oxygen while still in the stadium.

The incident took place in Kansas City, where the England national team's headquarters for the tournament is located. Henderson confirmed on social media this Tuesday that the surgery was successful: “Surgery done! Let's get ready for the big game on Saturday,” he wrote on Instagram. The English international did not forget to acknowledge those who supported him during this difficult time, publicly thanking: “Thank you to all the staff who looked after me at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. Especially to the three surgeons who performed the operation.”

Despite the setback, the 36-year-old player will remain with the team throughout the competition, accompanying his teammates as they prepare for the quarter-final clash against Norway, scheduled for Saturday in Miami. Henderson had already made history in this World Cup by becoming the first English footballer to compete in four different finals, after being brought on as a substitute in England's 2-0 victory over Panama in the group stage.

The festive atmosphere among players and fans has been a hallmark of this World Cup for the English squad, which joins supporters after each victory to chant and celebrate together. However, Henderson's injury has led coach Thomas Tuchel to consider changes to the celebrations: sources close to the team indicate that Tuchel is about to instruct his players to avoid jumping over advertising barriers in order to prevent further accidents.

With the squad focused on preparing for the next challenge and Henderson recovering, the England team is now seeking to maintain concentration and avoid episodes like this that could overshadow the atmosphere of confidence shared between the team and its supporters.
