Callum McGregor is determined to “build something special” with Martin O'Neill at the helm of Celtic, despite rumors regarding a potential departure for the captain. The 33-year-old midfielder has been linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia in recent months, but he remains focused on continuing to contribute to the club's success.

Recently, reports have emerged that McGregor has changed agencies, now being represented by the same group that represents Brendan Rodgers, the former Celtic manager and current coach of Al Qadsiah, a team in the Saudi Pro League. This move has intensified speculation about the player's future, but the captain has reiterated his motivation to achieve more titles under O'Neill's leadership.

The coach returned to the Glasgow club last season, leading Celtic to win both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup. McGregor praised the coaching staff, stating in comments to the club's official channel: “They are all incredible people who gave everything for the club and the cause last season. Especially in this second spell, it would have been easy for them to step back, but they embraced the challenge. That shows the kind of people they are. They enjoy challenges and face them head-on. That's exactly how I am, as a player and as a person.” The midfielder added that the return of the coaching staff and players creates a positive feeling to move forward and “build something special.”

In addition to McGregor, the future of other players such as Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels, and Reo Hatate is also shrouded in uncertainty as the club prepares for the new season. Regarding the rumors of the captain's departure, coach O'Neill commented that “McGregor hasn't given me any indication that he wants to leave,” but acknowledged that “money is an important factor, especially when you go over 30.”

When questioned about his motivation after winning 26 trophies, including last season's double, McGregor was firm: “It is the job of a Celtic player not to tire of winning. We have set an incredible standard over the last 14 or 15 years, being successful, winning numerous titles, and always trying to improve in Europe. And all of this brings greater expectations, a bigger target on our backs, so we have to work even harder to defend that status.” The midfielder emphasized that the core group of players who have been at the club for a long time understands this demand and takes on the responsibility of maintaining a high level. “As a Celtic player, we can never tire of winning, of trying to be the best individually and collectively, and of constantly improving.”

McGregor's stance makes it clear that, for now, the captain is focused on continuing his mission at Celtic, determined to help the team achieve new successes under O'Neill's management, regardless of the speculation surrounding his future.
