Young professional golfer dies after medical emergency during qualification.

Jessica Bang, a young Australian golf prospect, tragically passed away following a shocking medical emergency during a qualifying tournament. The 18-year-old golfer collapsed in Bangkok on August 1 while preparing for the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament and remained hospitalized until her untimely death.

The confirmation of Bang's death on August 13 at Synphaet Ramintra Hospital came after she suffered a brain hemorrhage, according to a statement from the WPGA Tour of Australasia. Following her collapse, she underwent brain surgery and was placed on life support in the intensive care unit, where her family stayed by her side for twelve days.

Bang's family expressed their gratitude for the support from the Australian golf community, with the athlete's cousins launching a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses and bring the golfer's body home. Donations exceeded AUD 30,000, reflecting the wave of solidarity that spread following the announcement of her condition. “We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support and well wishes. Unfortunately, Jessica passed away this morning, August 13, 2026, at 7:20 AM local time,” Bang's cousins wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Born in South Korea, Bang recently became an Australian citizen and turned professional in November 2025, after obtaining her card through the WPGA Tour of Australasia qualifying school. Her first professional title was won in February in Moss Vale, where she recorded a round of eight under par, with eight birdies and an eagle. This victory marked a milestone in her career, quickly elevating her to recognition within the golf community.

Following the tragic news, Golf NSW issued a statement, recalling the special moment when Bang won her first title and highlighting her character. “She was a talented golfer with a bright future ahead of her and was highly respected for her kindness both on and off the course,” the organization stated.

At this time, attention turns to Bang's family and the ongoing GoFundMe campaign that continues to raise funds to assist with medical expenses in Thailand. The loss of Jessica Bang leaves a void in the golf community, but her legacy and the impact she made in a short time will always be remembered.
