Barcelona is facing a harsh reality: the dream of signing Julian Alvarez is rapidly fading. The Argentine forward shows no resistance to Atlético de Madrid, who are also unwilling to negotiate. With the confirmed departures of Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski, the Catalan team urgently needs a new striker and is considering alternatives.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the club is looking at Luis Suarez, a forward from Sporting CP, as a fallback option if the transfer for Alvarez does not materialize. The 28-year-old Colombian is an important piece in the plans of the Portuguese club, making his signing difficult, and so far, Barcelona has not initiated any contact.
Barcelona's strategy is to wait another week to assess the situation regarding Alvarez. If there is no progress in the negotiations, the club's management will explore the possibility of signing Suarez or other alternatives. Spanish journalist Gerard Romero adds that Hansi Flick, the team's coach, has already given his approval for the pursuit of Suarez, indicating that he considers the player a good fit for the team's style of play. This is a significant development, as the coach has rejected other highly-rated names in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Julian Alvarez continues to dream of a transfer to Barcelona and believes he can convince Atlético de Madrid to let him leave. The player prefers a diplomatic approach and is in dialogue with Diego Simeone and the club's hierarchy, although the chances of success appear slim. Thus, Barcelona may soon prioritize the signing of Suarez, especially now that they have the support of the coach. However, Sporting CP will not make it easy for the player to leave, as his contract runs until 2030.
