Enzo Maresca revealed that Manchester City will not make a proposal for Enzo Fernández before the deadline set by Chelsea, but expressed a desire to continue strengthening the squad this summer. Chelsea has set the deadline for 5 PM on Friday, requiring potential buyers to pay the stipulated £120 million to secure the services of the Argentine midfielder.
The Italian coach indicated that, despite the intention to add new players to the squad, City will have to act quickly due to Chelsea's imposition. “I don't think we will do anything today,” Maresca stated, suggesting that the transfer window remains a priority for the team.
Rodri returned to Manchester after the World Cup, however, Barcelona has already seen two proposals rejected by the tournament winner. City deemed an initial offer of £38.4 million as unserious, and although the Catalans increased their bid to £51 million, Maresca avoided commenting on the midfielder's future. “I just saw Rodri, I gave him a big hug,” he said, reinforcing the bond between the player and the club.
While Manchester City considers the possibility of signing Enzo Fernández and Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, the team is also preparing to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Al Qadsiah for £51 million. So far, the only major signing has been Elliot Anderson, who arrived from Nottingham Forest for a record £116 million, in addition to the acquisition of goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli and young winger Jeremy Monga.
Maresca, who begins his tenure with the Community Shield against Arsenal next Sunday, expressed his ambition to win titles right from the start. “For me, personally, it’s a trophy, and when a trophy is at stake, we are always trying to win, so it’s not a friendly match by any means,” he concluded, making it clear that competitiveness will be a priority in his new era at the helm of Manchester City.
