Negotiations between Arsenal and Aston Villa for the signing of Ezri Konsa are progressing rapidly, with the London club optimistic about finalizing an agreement in the coming days. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, is determined to bolster his defense, especially following William Saliba's serious injury and Jurrien Timber's gradual return to fitness.

The situation in Arsenal's defense is concerning, as another injury could leave the team without alternatives. Signing a right-back has become a priority as the Gunners prepare to defend their Premier League title. Konsa, who represented England in the last World Cup, is expected to cost around £50 million. The 28-year-old is set to compete with Cristhian Mosquera for Saliba's position alongside Gabriel Magalhães at the start of the season against Coventry at home next Friday.

Additionally, Konsa is capable of playing as a right-back, providing an alternative to Ben White while Timber recovers from groin surgery performed this summer. There is growing confidence that a deal will be reached, given that Aston Villa initially valued Konsa at around £60 million. Following the Community Shield victory against Manchester City, Arteta stated that the club has been working “for weeks” to improve the defense.

With Saliba expected to be out for several months due to a back issue and Timber's initial role being limited, Konsa could provide immediate cover for the Gunners. Arteta may choose to use White as a right-back and Mosquera as a central defender alongside Gabriel, should Konsa be available next week if negotiations accelerate. There is a high expectation surrounding Konsa's arrival, with fans eager to see how this addition could impact the team in the title race.
