Al-Hilal targets Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni with Simone Inzaghi link

Alessandro Bastoni has emerged as a shock target for Al-Hilal, with transfer speculation swirling over a potential high-profile move that would reunite the Inter defender with his former coach Simone Inzaghi. According to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, the Saudi Pro League giants have made an approach to pry Bastoni away from San Siro, igniting a major transfer story in this summer window.

The Italian centre-back has been linked with a host of European powerhouses, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Chelsea, fueling rumours that his days at Inter could be numbered. Early summer reports suggested Bastoni was closer than ever to an exit, as some of Europe’s elite circled for his signature. However, Inter’s stance has been unequivocal, with coach Cristian Chivu insisting the 27-year-old is not for sale, despite off-pitch controversies that have placed Bastoni under the microscope.

Bastoni’s recent actions—drawing criticism for his simulation that led to Juventus player Pierre Kalulu’s dismissal, his own red card in Italy’s World Cup play-off, and an ensuing police investigation—have triggered outrage among fans across Italy. Yet, Inter’s management has stood firm, determined to retain their defensive lynchpin for the foreseeable future.

Sky Sport Italia reports that while Al-Hilal have made initial contact, no formal bid has been submitted for Bastoni. The move, however, remains highly improbable at this stage. Bastoni, under contract at Inter until June 2028, is not interested in a transfer to the Saudi Pro League, even with the prospect of a reunion with Inzaghi, who now leads Al-Hilal. Furthermore, the Saudi club would first be required to sell an existing overseas player before making any concrete offer for the Italian international.

Bastoni’s future appears firmly tied to the Nerazzurri, with negotiations for a contract extension expected to take place. Despite the ongoing speculation and attention from some of the world’s biggest clubs, Bastoni is expected to remain at Inter, where he continues to be a central figure both on and off the pitch.
