Arsenal enters talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah

Arsenal Intensifies Pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen Defender Jarell Quansah Amid Saliba Injury Crisis

Arsenal are accelerating their efforts to secure Bayer Leverkusen’s versatile defender Jarell Quansah this summer, responding urgently to a defensive void created by William Saliba’s significant World Cup injury. The Gunners’ manager, Mikel Arteta, has identified centre-back reinforcements as a top priority after losing Saliba to a long-term layoff. Initially targeting Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, Arsenal encountered obstacles in negotiations for the England international, prompting a strategic pivot towards Konsa’s national teammate, Quansah.

The 23-year-old Quansah, who transitioned to Bayer Leverkusen from Liverpool last summer for around £30 million, has impressed in the Bundesliga with his aerial threat and set-piece proficiency. Last season, he netted four goals across 28 league appearances, ranking among the top seven Bundesliga players for goals scored from set plays. His ability to operate both as a centre-back and right-back adds valuable flexibility to Arsenal’s defensive options.

Despite Arsenal’s keen interest, Bayer Leverkusen remain reluctant to part ways with Quansah and are demanding a premium above last summer’s transfer fee. The club’s stance underscores Quansah’s rising importance and potential, complicating Arsenal’s pursuit but not deterring the Gunners from pushing for a deal.

Arsenal’s urgency to bolster their backline is palpable as they seek to navigate the challenges posed by Saliba’s absence. Quansah’s emergence as a target reflects the club’s commitment to reinforcing their defence with a player capable of immediate impact and long-term development.

The Gunners will now focus on overcoming Leverkusen’s valuation to finalize a transfer that could reshape their defensive dynamics ahead of the new season.
