Paul Merson, former Arsenal player, has no doubts: Saturday’s match against Leeds United is likely the most important of the season for the Gunners. Following a disappointing performance that has resulted in three winless games, including a heavy defeat to Manchester United, Merson is calling for urgent changes in Mikel Arteta’s lineup. The former player believes the coach needs to rethink his strategy, especially with increasing pressure on the team.

“This is the game, isn’t it? Playing in Leeds won’t be easy, not at all,” Merson stated in revealing comments to Sportskeeda. The importance of this game cannot be underestimated; a victory would put Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table, while Manchester City still has to face Tottenham. “It’s a good position to be in,” he emphasized.

Arsenal, who have failed to win in their last three matches, now face a Leeds side in excellent form, having lost only one of their last 11 games. Merson highlights that the Leeds team has shown quality football, including victories over Chelsea and draws with Liverpool and Manchester United, which have pulled them out of the relegation zone.

Merson suggests including Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli in the starting eleven, at the expense of Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard. “Martinelli brings a pace that could be crucial against Leeds’ defense,” he said. The need for a solid performance is evident, especially after a defensive display that allowed three goals in the last match.

The former player also analyzed the performance of Eberechi Eze, who faced criticism from fans during the match against Manchester United. “When Eze came on, the fans were furious, but that’s just how he plays. He is a special player and needs time to adapt to the pressure that comes with wearing the Arsenal shirt,” Merson said, arguing that fans should be patient.

The urgency for a positive result is clear, and Merson does not hesitate to state that this is a decisive moment for Arsenal’s future in the title race. “If they lose and the lead drops to one point, I don’t believe they can win the league,” he warned. He predicts an important victory for the visitors, with a 2-0 result being the outcome that could change the course of the season for Arsenal.

With such a crucial game on the horizon, the pressure could not be higher. Arsenal needs to come together and show their true strength at Elland Road if they want to keep their title hopes alive.
