Bruno Fernandes is setting the Premier League alight and Michael Carrick has no doubts: the captain of Manchester United deserves to be the best player of the season! With an impressive record of 16 assists in the league so far, the Portuguese midfielder is dominating the English football scene and smashing historic records.

Since Carrick took over as interim head coach of the Red Devils, Bruno Fernandes has played in his preferred position, the number 10, and has been a key figure in the team’s climb to 3rd place in the Premier League, after 31 matches. The Portuguese is not only a creator of chances but also a lethal goalscorer, already registering eight goals and 17 assists in 30 games this season, across all competitions. This performance earns him the record for most assists in a single Premier League season for United, surpassing the 15 set by David Beckham.

The Portuguese star now has an even more ambitious goal in sight: to break the all-time assists record in a Premier League season, held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry, with 20 assists. With seven games remaining, Bruno Fernandes has every chance to make history in English football.

Michael Carrick did not hold back praise for his captain in an interview with Sky Sports, highlighting the lasting impact Fernandes has on the team: “The impact he has had on the group over a long period is impressive in many respects. He is always available, has a fantastic attitude, and understands perfectly what it means to play here. Maintaining that level of performance consistently, not just this season but over a long period, is a great asset for the club.” Carrick also emphasised the midfielder’s performance since his return to the technical leadership: “He has been fantastic since I came back, so he certainly deserves to be among the main contenders for this kind of award.”

The last Manchester United player to win the Premier League Player of the Year award was the legendary Nemanja Vidić, in the 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons. The Red Devils remain the team with the most winners and triumphs in this category, reinforcing the club’s historic significance in this competition.

Despite all the showmanship, Bruno Fernandes’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain. The midfielder will enter the final year of his contract this summer, and there are no signs of renewal yet. Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko are the only players with more goals than Fernandes this season, which only underscores how valuable the Portuguese is to the team.

Furthermore, Bruno Fernandes also leads the race for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award, a prize he has already won four times, equalling a record. Manchester United knows it has one of the greatest talents in European football in its hands, but the question remains: how long can it keep this rising star in its squad?

Bruno Fernandes is in destructive mode and Michael Carrick has no doubts: he is the king of Manchester United and a serious contender to dominate the Premier League this season. Now, all that remains is to see if the club can hold on to this rising star to keep dreaming big.
