Crystal Palace advanced to the round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League (UECL) this season, following a convincing 2-0 victory over Zrinjski Mostar, thus securing a 3-1 aggregate lead in the tie. The match, played at the iconic Selhurst Park, saw the London side deliver a solid performance, despite a first leg that had ended in a surprising draw in Bosnia. Now, Oliver Glasner’s men are one step away from an exciting clash with FSV Mainz 05 or a rematch against AEK Larnaca.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that Crystal Palace was determined to rectify the mistakes of the first encounter. However, the initial intensity left much to be desired, with players appearing hesitant to capitalize on opportunities. In the fifteenth minute, Evann Guessand won a header that seemed destined for goal, but a deflection from an opposing defender compromised the effort. Daichi Kamada also had his chance, but his attempt was deflected, in a first half marked by fouls and four yellow cards, distributed evenly between the teams.

Despite Zrinjski setting up defensively, Crystal Palace finally managed to open the scoring 10 minutes before half-time. Adam Wharton executed a superb free-kick that found Maxence Lacroix, who, with a precise header, scored his second goal in European competition this season. With the lead, the Eagles were aware that another goal could secure their passage, but they still felt the pressure of a result that could be overturned.

The second half brought more opportunities for Palace, with Ismaïla Sarr heading a ball that was easily saved by Goran Karačić. Chris Richards also had a clear chance, but his header went over the bar, increasing the team’s frustration. The most exciting moment came in the final minutes when Tyrick Mitchell made an impressive run down the left, crossing for Sarr, who, unfortunately for the fans, missed the opportunity, sending his header wide.

The final result made it clear that, although Palace advanced comfortably, the finishing issues will be a point of focus as the competition progresses. Crystal Palace, with a squad full of talent, is determined to solidify its position in the UEFA Conference League, and the upcoming challenges promise to be exciting for the fans.
