On Tuesday night, Wolverhampton shocked the football world by achieving an unexpected victory over Liverpool, and manager Rob Edwards did not hold back in praising the fighting spirit displayed by his team. The match, which ended in a thrilling conclusion, saw Rodrigo Gomes put the Wolves ahead in the 78th minute, only for Mohamed Salah to equalize five minutes later. However, the real excitement came in the dying moments, when Andre scored the winning goal in the 94th minute, sealing a night to remember.

Edwards, visibly emotional, stated: “It’s not great for my heart, but I could certainly get used to this. It feels really good.” The manager emphasized that his team’s self-confidence was crucial for the triumph. “In the early moments of the game, we showed some really good moments with the ball. We managed to get past them a few times, and Liverpool started to have more control as the half progressed, which prevented us from having the ball as much as we would have liked.”

He continued to praise his team’s performance, emphasizing that despite Liverpool’s dominance, their strategy to stay in the game was crucial. “We were at 0-0 at halftime, which is where we wanted to be – of course we would have liked to be winning – but we wanted to be in the game because we felt we could improve. And that’s what we’ve done, especially in the second half. There’s more pressure on the opponents, they start to open up, and that creates more spaces.”

The confidence that now permeates the Wolves squad is clearly visible, and Edwards did not hesitate to comment on the evolution of the group. “It’s confidence, but it’s also a matter of effort. It took time, and with the results, people will notice more, but it’s evident that there has been a huge difference between when we arrived and now, in terms of the fight and work that the boys are showing. We have a very small squad at the moment, but everyone is together, everyone is fighting for each other. Each one feels that they are not that far away.”

He also referred to the younger players who have not had many minutes, but highlighted the importance of a united group. “We have a cohesive group that is fighting for each other, working hard, and showing that maybe we’re not as bad as people thought.”

With morale high after two consecutive victories, including a recent win in the derby against Aston Villa, Wolverhampton appears to be finding a new identity under the leadership of Rob Edwards. Fans can now dream of a promising future as the team continues to defy expectations and make its mark in the Premier League.
