Ezri Konsa leaves England camp with trauma injury, Tuchel warns on Arsenal defender

England player in red kit battles for the ball with a Croatia player in red-and-white checks during a match. Teammate "Guehi" number 6 watches on.
In short
  • Ezri Konsa has left the England squad after a trauma injury to his quadriceps.
  • The Arsenal defender played the full 90 minutes in England's 3-2 loss to Spain before missing matches.
  • Thomas Tuchel said Konsa's knock is "not a muscle injury" and that it isn't worth the risk to play him.

Arsenal’s defensive line faces a major blow as Ezri Konsa has been forced to exit the England squad due to a troubling injury setback. The 28-year-old stalwart featured for the full 90 minutes in England’s narrow 3-2 loss to world champions Spain, but has since missed crucial fixtures against Czechia and Croatia. With England preparing to face Czechia again on Tuesday, Konsa will remain absent, having returned to North London to focus on recovery.

While initial reports hinted Konsa might be fit to return for Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League clash with Leeds United, England manager Thomas Tuchel delivered a stark update that dims those hopes. Tuchel disclosed that Konsa’s condition is more complicated than first believed, describing the issue as a “trauma” rather than a simple muscle injury.

“Ezri felt discomfort when he came into camp,” Tuchel explained. “He played with discomfort against Spain and it got a bit worse, so he stayed in camp and tried everything for the match in Czechia, which came too soon.” Despite his efforts to push through, Konsa’s situation worsened after sustaining another impact to his quadriceps during training ahead of the Croatia game.

Tuchel added, “He tried everything for the match in Croatia and gave the green light, finished all the training sessions, but unfortunately, he got another hit on the quad that caused a light trauma. We decided not to let him play through the pain and discomfort again, so he left camp to get treatment for both of his issues.”

Highlighting the seriousness behind the decision, the England boss emphasized caution: “I think nothing major but not worth the risk taking. We were happy with the attitude that he showed to stay in camp. It’s a knock, not a muscle injury.”

This development leaves Arsenal in a precarious defensive position ahead of their domestic fixtures, with Konsa’s recovery timeline now uncertain. Tuchel’s remarks underline the club’s priority on protecting the player over rushing his return, signaling that Arsenal may need to brace for a defensive reshuffle as they await further updates on Konsa’s condition.
