Felix Nmecha stands out as the ideal successor to Casemiro at Manchester United.

The race to find Casemiro’s successor at Old Trafford has just taken a dramatic turn: what was seen as the most serious obstacle to Manchester United, Newcastle United’s competition for Felix Nmecha, has collapsed due to financial constraints. With one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe now practically within reach of the Red Devils, the pressure is entirely on INEOS to avoid losing the “German diamond” who dazzled at the World Cup.

The Manchester United is desperately seeking a new commander for its midfield following the departure of Casemiro, whose last season at the club was marked by exceptional performances and unquestionable leadership. The bet on Félix Nmecha, a midfielder from Borussia Dortmund, comes at a critical moment for the English side, which is facing a decisive transfer window. While the World Cup is underway, Nmecha has been a key player for Germany, accumulating high-level performances that have put him on the radar of European giants. Nmecha’s name has been linked to both United and Newcastle, with the latter seemingly willing to engage in a multi-million battle for the midfielder, with figures close to 100 million euros on the table.

However, according to a recent investigation by Chronicle Live, Newcastle United has withdrawn from the race for Nmecha due to budgetary constraints imposed after a summer of astronomical spending, which reached £240 million. The departure of names like Alexander Isak, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almirón, and Lloyd Kelly was insufficient to balance the books and create room for further investment of this magnitude. “Newcastle is simply not in the market for players that cost that kind of money,” the publication clarified, completely dismantling the scenario of a fierce duel with Manchester United.

The absence of the Magpies in the race leaves the path practically clear for Manchester United, which, according to sources close to the club, is treating the deal as an absolute priority on the list of Christopher Vivell, the new head of recruitment. “Vivell is pushing hard to close this deal,” was confirmed by several sources linked to the club. The conviction is shared within Old Trafford: if INEOS, the club’s new owner, invests heavily, Nmecha will be a Red Devil this summer.

Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, did not hold back on his praise for the young midfielder from Dortmund during the World Cup, calling him “exceptional” and highlighting his “physical presence, ability to appear in the box, and vast technical repertoire.” Nagelsmann also stated: “Nmecha is deciding games for Germany; he is a lethal player when he gets loose in the final third.” This public endorsement has only heightened the interest of European giants, but United’s financial power seems to finally be paying off.

For Manchester United, securing Nmecha represents much more than a significant signing: it is a statement of intent in a summer where the team seeks to reclaim the lost dominance in England and Europe. The arrival of the German midfielder could mark the beginning of a new era in midfield, capable of restoring stability and creativity to a sector that has suffered greatly since Casemiro’s departure.

The next step will be to negotiate directly with Borussia Dortmund, a club that has already shown it knows how to sell its top talents at a high price. If INEOS meets expectations and agrees to the demanded amounts, Manchester United will finally have the ideal replacement for Casemiro and, with that, a significant asset to challenge for all titles in 2024/25. Everything indicates that the Nmecha saga is about to reach a happy ending for the fans at Old Trafford, while European rivals will have to look for alternatives to strengthen their midfield.
