“Garnacho on the way to repeat success while Chelsea star is overshadowed.”

The FA Cup, one of the most iconic competitions in English football, has lost some of its shine and relevance in recent years, often becoming a mere appendage in teams’ calendars as they grapple with fixture congestion. This scenario was clearly highlighted in the recent match between Hull City and Chelsea, where manager Sergej Jakirovic made six changes to his lineup, prioritizing the fight for promotion in the Championship over a cup run. On the other hand, the Blues also opted to rotate their squad, making seven changes after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Leeds United.

This strategy provides a valuable opportunity for less-used players to showcase their worth, and that is exactly what happened when some members of Chelsea’s team, who have been struggling, were brought onto the pitch. One of those players, Cole Delap, who chose Chelsea over clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle for a fee of £30 million, had his career options questioned by commentator Jamie Carragher, who warned him that his choice was a “bad move.” With only one goal in 17 Premier League matches, Delap, who was expected to be a potential successor to Harry Kane in the England squad, seems to be struggling to make an impact.

During the match against Hull, Delap had a performance that fluctuated between moments of brilliance and others of pure frustration. His display was criticized by Alan Shearer, who called him “sloppy” and “slow,” especially when, after a moment where he seemed to have scored, he fell to the ground searching for a penalty, an action deemed more embarrassing than effective. However, his luck changed when Pedro Neto opened the scoring, followed by a second goal directly from a corner, allowing Chelsea to take control of the match.

After a shaky start, Delap performed better in the second half, showcasing quality in his possession play and contributing to build-up plays that resulted in goals. Despite it being a positive night, many still believe he would have been better served progressing in a team like Everton, where he could have more time to develop his skills.

However, the situation of Alejandro Garnacho, a player for Manchester United, seems to be even more critical. Garnacho, who is experiencing one of his worst moments in the Premier League, has been warned that he could face a fate similar to that of other players who left the club if he does not improve his attitude and performance. Before the game, Micah Richards had urged the young player to show “more conviction” and “consistency” after a disappointing display against Leeds. And once again, his performance against Hull left much to be desired, with missed opportunities and a lack of decisiveness that did not go unnoticed by Shearer.

Garnacho, a player with undeniable talent, seems to be stuck in a phase of stagnation, opting to fall instead of fighting for possession of the ball, which raises serious questions about his future at the club. Without a significant change in his behavior and style of play, it would not be surprising to see him relegated to the bench or even transferred soon. Garnacho’s future at Manchester United is at stake, and the pressure is mounting.
