Genoa beat Juventus 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, with goals from Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi. The result had special significance for Daniele De Rossi, who faced his former manager, Luciano Spalletti.

De Rossi, the current Genoa manager, said after the match that beating Spalletti “means a lot”. Spalletti was his manager at Roma. In an interview before the match, the pair showed the strong relationship they share.

“It was a complete performance, because we held up better under pressure than in previous matches,” De Rossi told DAZN Italia.

Three home wins in a row

Genoa now have three consecutive home wins, including victories over Venezia and Fiorentina. The win over Juventus, a team with a history of success, gives them a confidence boost for the rest of the season.

De Rossi stressed the importance of the players’ performance and singled out Baldanzi. The player, who has been fighting for regular playing time, was decisive in scoring the second goal.

De Rossi and his second career

“I started thinking about becoming a manager very early, at 25 or 26,” De Rossi revealed. “As I got older, I thought more and more about my second career. Now I am facing giants of the profession, and it means a lot to me to have beaten managers like Spalletti and Gian Piero Gasperini.”

De Rossi praised the team, saying all the players were wonderful and that tactical flexibility was crucial to the success. “We made five or six changes and we will make more against Lecce,” he added.

With this win, Genoa consolidate their position in the table and prepare for new challenges under the leadership of the former Italy international.
