Gianluca Gaetano set for atalanta medical in €14m transfer from cagliari

Gianluca Gaetano is set to become Atalanta’s newest signing after a €14 million agreement, including add-ons, was struck with Cagliari. The creative midfielder will arrive in Bergamo on Thursday to undergo his medical, paving the way for a move that signals a major statement of intent from Atalanta and newly appointed head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Atalanta’s pursuit of Gaetano has been anything but casual. The 26-year-old was specifically targeted by Sarri, with negotiations reportedly beginning months ago. According to multiple sources, including Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the deal is now fully agreed, with the transfer fee structured as €12 million upfront plus an additional €2 million based on performance-related bonuses.

Gaetano’s journey to this pivotal moment has been marked by steady progression through Italian football. A product of the Napoli youth system, he gained vital experience during loan spells at Cremonese and Cagliari. His performances in Sardinia convinced Cagliari to make his move permanent last June for €6.2 million.

Last season, Gaetano emerged as one of Cagliari’s standout performers, featuring in 35 matches across Serie A and the Coppa Italia. He contributed two goals and four assists, underlining his creative influence in midfield and his ability to make a tangible impact in high-pressure situations.

With his medical scheduled in Bergamo, the final formalities of the transfer are expected to be completed swiftly, allowing Gaetano to sign his contract and join up with Sarri’s squad ahead of the new campaign. The move not only reunites Gaetano with a coach who personally requested his arrival but also underscores Atalanta’s ambition to bolster their squad with proven Serie A talent.

All eyes will now be on Gianluca Gaetano as he prepares to take the next step in his career, with Atalanta banking on his technical quality and vision to make a decisive difference in their midfield ranks.
