In short
  • Portugal beat Norway 2-1 at Oslo's Ullevaal Stadion, ending Norway's 14-match home unbeaten run in the UEFA Nations League.
  • Joao Felix opened the scoring in the 17th minute, and Goncalo Ramos made it 2-1 after a Norway goalkeeper error by Orjan Nyland.
  • Erling Haaland scored for Norway, but Portugal held on to top Group A4 with their fourth consecutive opening-campaign win.

Portugal ended Norway’s fortress-like home unbeaten streak with a dramatic 2-1 victory in the UEFA Nations League Group A4 clash at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion, capitalizing on a nightmare error by Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. The defeat snapped Norway’s 14-match unbeaten run on home soil and underscored Portugal’s ruthless efficiency despite missing star Cristiano Ronaldo from the starting lineup.

Ronaldo watched from the bench as his national side launched a high-tempo assault from the outset. Portugal’s breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Joao Felix, maintaining his lethal international form, coolly converted from the edge of the box. This strike marked Felix’s ninth consecutive international goal, a streak where he has consistently scored either the opening or closing goal in each match, including the decisive strike in Portugal’s recent 1-0 win over Wales.

Norway’s talisman Erling Haaland was left frustrated after a key opportunity was denied by an exceptional block from his Manchester City teammate Ruben Dias. Despite relentless pressure from Norway—with Haaland testing Portugal’s goalkeeper Costa twice with headers and Sander Berge narrowly missing a header—Portugal maintained a clean sheet through the first half for the sixth game in a row.

Haaland finally broke through six minutes after the interval, netting from close range to extend his formidable tally to 65 goals in 57 appearances for Norway. His scoring consistency is staggering, having found the net in 16 of his last 17 competitive internationals. However, the momentum swung back swiftly. Nyland’s catastrophic mistake three minutes later gave Goncalo Ramos a gift as he lobbed the ball into an empty net, scoring his 12th international goal and restoring Portugal’s lead.

Nyland’s woes continued when Ramos latched onto a through ball and outpaced the goalkeeper, but this goal was disallowed for offside. The match intensified in the closing stages, with Norway desperate to salvage a point, but Portugal’s resilience held firm. The victory propels Portugal to the summit of Group A4, marking the fourth time in five Nations League campaigns they have started with consecutive wins.

Under new management with Jorge Jesus, Portugal has won seven of their last ten matches (two draws, one loss), demonstrating a potent blend of experience and emerging talent. Meanwhile, Norway remains on three points from two games, suffering their ninth defeat in 12 encounters against Portugal (one win, two draws). The match highlighted Portugal’s clinical edge and Norway’s costly errors, setting the tone for a fiercely competitive Nations League campaign.
