On Sunday, Barcelona delighted their fans with an impressive 5-2 victory over Sevilla, consolidating their lead in La Liga with a four-point advantage over eternal rivals Real Madrid. This triumph comes at a crucial time, especially following the reelection of Joan Laporta as the club’s president, which has brought new optimism to the Catalan ranks. However, despite the resounding result, coach Hansi Flick did not hide his dissatisfaction with certain phases of the game, revealing that there is still much to improve in the team.

During the post-match press conference, Flick did not hesitate to express his discontent regarding his team’s performance at Spotify Camp Nou. He commented: “Many things went well, but there are situations on the pitch that I wasn’t very happy with. We had three points and five goals more, but at the beginning, we didn’t play with the necessary conviction. I know we have played many matches and perhaps for some players it is too much, but we need to play faster in the next games, as Newcastle is a great team.”

Flick, who has a methodical and demanding approach, made it clear that his mission is always to improve. “We have to think about what we can enhance because that’s what I like to do and it’s my job. I want people to understand me. I’m happy, but on Wednesday we need to be at our best,” he stated, anticipating the upcoming challenge.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the return of Gavi, who made his first appearance in over six months, coming on in the last 10 minutes of the match. Flick expressed his satisfaction: “We are happy with the victory and with Gavi’s return. For him, it’s an important step in the right direction. Today, the situation, with such a broad result, was appropriate for him to get minutes. I also saw him doing well in training; he won one-on-one duels. Everyone at Barça is happy for his return. Ronald decided to give him the captain’s armband – that was his decision. It shows the atmosphere in the locker room.”

But the star of the night was undoubtedly João Cancelo, who opened the scoring and spectacularly confirmed why he was signed. Flick praised the full-back: “He needed time to adjust to certain things. He had played his last matches in November, had been without minutes, but he is fantastic. He has great technical quality. He scored a great goal and also won the penalties. I believe that signing him was the right choice.”

With Barcelona shining on the pitch and their structure strengthening, fans can expect a promising future. Flick’s words are a clear sign that the path ahead is one of excellence and commitment. Expectations around the team are rising as they prepare for the upcoming challenges, especially with the next match against Newcastle.
