On Sunday, Barcelona delivered a memorable performance to their fans, defeating Levante 3-0 at the iconic Spotify Camp Nou. While the team showcased a solid display, one player stood out exceptionally: João Cancelo. The Portuguese right-back was hailed as the MVP of the match, but his journey since returning to Catalonia has been anything but easy.

João Cancelo, who joined Barcelona on loan from Al Hilal, has faced a challenging start in his second stint at the club. The match against Levante was only his third start since his return, raising questions about his adaptation and role within the squad. The situation became even more intriguing with the revelation made by the player himself, who admitted he had not been in ideal condition to compete at the highest level upon arriving from Saudi Arabia.

“I wasn’t in my best shape when I arrived at Barça, I wasn’t at the same physical level as my teammates. I’m getting back to my level, step by step. Flick is very demanding, the club is too… I love it,” Cancelo stated, highlighting the pressure and high standards he faces under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick.

A performance of Cancelo against Levante was, according to him, his best since returning, which gives him confidence to maintain his starting position, especially considering Alejandro Balde’s recent difficulties. “Yes, it was definitely my best performance since returning. It’s about seizing the opportunity. I was training very well and I felt that the coach would count on me. When we train well, things flow naturally on the pitch,” said the full-back, expressing optimism about the future.

With morale high and a desire to prove himself, João Cancelo seems determined to solidify his place in the team and contribute to Barcelona’s success in the upcoming matches. Fans hope he continues to improve, proving that he is a key piece in the club’s machinery.
