Chelsea striker Joao Pedro is on the verge of securing a new contract, delivering a major boost to head coach Xabi Alonso ahead of the new season. Although Pedro’s current long-term deal runs until June 2032, this fresh agreement will reportedly include a significant wage increase, underscoring Chelsea’s commitment to retaining the promising forward amid growing interest from Barcelona.
Journalists Simon Johnson and Guillermo Rai have confirmed that the 24-year-old Brazilian will be rewarded with extended terms as Chelsea aim to fend off advances from the Spanish giants. Pedro’s preseason performances have been nothing short of spectacular, highlighted by a remarkable nine-minute hat-trick during Chelsea’s 6-4 preseason win over Western Sydney Warriors in Australia. Such displays have only strengthened the club’s resolve to keep their young striker on board.
This contract renewal arrives as Chelsea seek to bolster their attacking options further, with reports from The Athletic indicating that former Manchester United and current Brighton forward Danny Welbeck is also being targeted to add experience to the squad. Pedro is not alone in being poised for a fresh deal, as the Blues prepare to secure several key players in the coming weeks.
The decision to extend Pedro’s contract sends a clear signal of intent from Chelsea, reflecting their ambition to build a competitive squad under Alonso’s guidance. With the striker’s value rising and interest mounting, the club’s swift action to secure his future could prove decisive in their attacking strategy moving forward.
