Karim Adeyemi is preparing to don the Barcelona jersey this summer, in one of the most unexpected transfer moves of the season. The German winger, whose role at Borussia Dortmund has drastically diminished in the second half of the season, has reached an agreement with the Catalans, in a transfer that promises to shake up European football.
Adeyemi, currently under contract until June 2027, has officially informed Dortmund that he only wishes to move to Barcelona. The Spanish club has already submitted a formal offer to secure the player, with negotiations ongoing between the two clubs. This change comes at a time when Adeyemi was left out of the German national team selections for the last World Cup, a consequence of his intermittent usage at Dortmund.
The news was reported this Thursday by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who revealed: “KARIM ADEYEMI HAS AGREED TERMS WITH BARCELONA AND HAS INFORMED BVB THAT HE ONLY WANTS TO MOVE TO BARÇA. ADEYEMI, WHO HAS A CONTRACT UNTIL JUNE 2027, DOES NOT INTEND TO RENEW. BARCELONA HAS SUBMITTED AN OFFICIAL OFFER TO BVB TO SECURE ADEYEMI NOW, AND IS WORKING TO CLOSE THE DEAL.” These statements reinforce the determination of both the player and the Spanish club to conclude the process quickly.
The interest of Barcelona in strengthening their wings became even clearer following the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, with Adeyemi being the second priority target for the attack. Interestingly, Hansi Flick, the current coach of Barcelona, was the one who gave Adeyemi his first cap for the senior Germany national team in 2021, also taking him to the 2022 World Cup. Flick is regarded as a great admirer of the winger's qualities, being considered a key figure in facilitating this transfer.
In addition to Adeyemi, Barcelona is also eyeing Julián Álvarez from Atlético de Madrid, indicating that the overhaul of the attacking sector is far from over. According to reports, the Catalans do not intend to give up on the Argentine forward, further fueling expectations around the squad for the upcoming season.
With the agreement between Adeyemi and Barcelona already in place and official negotiations with Dortmund underway, fans are now awaiting the final outcome of this signing. If it materializes, the arrival of the German player promises to increase competitiveness in the blaugrana attack and give a new dimension to the sports project led by Hansi Flick.
