Curtis Jones is about to embark on a new chapter in his career, after Liverpool confirmed the sale of the midfielder to Inter Milan for a fee that could reach 35 million euros. The player, who stood out in the club's academy, has been given permission to travel to Italy, where he will undergo the necessary medical tests to formalize the transfer.
Journalist Paul Joyce from The Times revealed that Inter Milan made a formal offer of 30 million euros, plus 5 million in variables. This proposal comes after lengthy negotiations, during which the Italian team sought to strengthen its midfield with the talent of the young 25-year-old player. Liverpool, which initially valued Jones at a higher price, ultimately accepted the offer, which meets the criteria set by the club.
Gianluca Di Marzio, a journalist from Sky Sports, confirmed that Liverpool's response was swift and that all documents were exchanged and signed. The deal includes a total package valued at 30 million euros, plus 5 million in hard-to-reach bonuses, and a 10% sell-on clause in the event of a future transfer. Jones has committed to a five-year contract, with a net salary of 3.5 million euros per season.
With Jones's departure, having made 228 appearances for Liverpool, the club does not plan to enter the market for an expensive replacement. Instead, the focus is on Trey Nyoni, a promising 19-year-old from the academy, who is expected to be promoted to take the place left by Jones in the first team. Nyoni impressed coaches during pre-season, demonstrating maturity and tactical intelligence.
