In an electrifying clash at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City saw their hopes of clinching the Premier League title suffer a significant blow as they conceded a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, who are battling against relegation. With this result, Pep Guardiola’s team now finds themselves seven points behind Arsenal, their direct rivals in the trophy race.

City, who had been on an impressive run of 16 wins in 19 home games, started the match dominating possession. Antoine Semenyo, early on, unleashed a powerful shot that only found the side netting. However, Nottingham Forest remained unfazed and managed to withstand the initial 20 minutes of intense pressure. Morgan Gibbs-White nearly caught them off guard, but his low shot was skillfully saved by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

As the first half progressed, City continued to be the most threatening team. Their persistence was finally rewarded in the 31st minute when Semenyo, with a magnificent volley after an assist from Rayan Cherki, scored his 15th goal in the Premier League this season. The home team appeared to be in complete control and sought to extend their lead, but Erling Haaland, in a rare miss, failed to convert a clear opportunity after dribbling past Matz Sels.

Despite City’s dominance, Nottingham Forest did not give up. The visiting team showed resilience and, after some missed chances by Bernardo Silva and Cherki, managed to equalize with a display of pure skill. City’s immediate response came in the form of a goal from Rodri, who accurately headed in a corner taken by Aït-Nouri, putting the hosts back in the lead.

However, Nottingham Forest was not willing to accept defeat easily. With only 20 minutes remaining, Vítor Pereira’s team intensified their efforts and, in a well-worked play, Elliot Anderson received a pass from Callum Hudson-Odoi and, with a sublime touch, unleashed a precise shot into the bottom corner, restoring parity.

With Arsenal leading in Brighton, the pressure on City increased. They knew the importance of finding a decisive goal in the closing moments, but Silva saw his shot on goal agonizingly blocked in the final seconds of the match. The draw left Manchester City seven points behind Arsenal, although they still have a game in hand, while Nottingham Forest breathed a sigh of relief, remaining outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.

The fight for the Premier League title has become even more intense, with eyes now turning to the upcoming challenges that await City and their desire to reclaim the top spot, while Forest tries to stay strong and clear of relegation.
