Martin Zubimendi ready to reject Arsenal and join real madrid in €75m transfer

In short
  • Martin Zubimendi reportedly wants to leave Arsenal for Real Madrid, with his agents instructed to speed up talks.
  • Arsenal are open to a deal if Real Madrid meets their valuation, believed to be around €75 million (£64 million).
  • Earlier reports said Zubimendi would only consider leaving if he remained sidelined beyond January.

Martin Zubimendi’s future at Arsenal is facing a major upheaval as the Spanish midfielder reportedly sets his sights on a high-profile move to Real Madrid. Since his arrival from Real Sociedad in 2025, the 27-year-old has impressed at the Emirates, but recent developments have seen his role diminish, fueling speculation about his next career step.

Initially a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s midfield setup, Zubimendi found his starting spot under threat last season. Myles Lewis-Skelly overtook him in the pecking order, and the arrival of Bruno Guimarães further intensified competition. Guimarães, in particular, has been praised for his defensive contributions, with Premier League statistics highlighting his superiority over other Arsenal midfielders in critical defensive metrics.

Spanish outlet Nacional has now reported that Zubimendi is proactively seeking a transfer, with Real Madrid emerging as his preferred destination. The midfielder is said to have instructed his agents to expedite talks, signaling a clear intent to leave north London. Arsenal, on their part, are open to negotiations provided that Real Madrid meets their valuation, which is believed to be in the region of €75 million (£64 million).

However, this situation remains fluid. Earlier reports from TEAMtalk indicated that Zubimendi was still determined to compete for his place at Arsenal and would only consider departing if he remained sidelined beyond January. This suggests that the midfielder’s desire to leave could be contingent on his playing time in the coming months.

From Arsenal’s perspective, patience appears to be the strategic approach. While Zubimendi is not an automatic starter, his experience and depth are valuable across the demanding Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cup campaigns. The interest from Real Madrid is understandable; Zubimendi’s familiarity with La Liga and his suitability for possession-based football align well with Real’s style.

The critical factor will be the financial terms and timing. Arsenal invested approximately £60 million to secure Zubimendi’s services in 2025, and his current contract still offers the club leverage. Should Real Madrid match Arsenal’s asking price and the player remain insistent on a move, a transfer in 2027 could be mutually beneficial.

Until then, Arsenal are likely to hold firm, monitoring whether Zubimendi’s reduced role is temporary or a sign of things to come. In parallel, the Gunners are reportedly eyeing a bold €70-80 million bid for Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, signaling their intent to strengthen aggressively in the transfer market.

This unfolding saga marks a pivotal moment for Zubimendi and Arsenal alike, with significant implications for both their futures in top-flight football.
