Since Michael Carrick took over as manager of Manchester United, the team has shown a new energy and determination, achieving four wins and one draw in their first five matches of the Premier League. The transformation under the leadership of the former Red Devils player is remarkable, and one of the key figures in this revival is young Kobbie Mainoo. The 20-year-old midfielder, who previously struggled for minutes on the pitch under former manager Ruben Amorim, is now a key piece in Carrick’s setup.
“I have known Kobbie for a long time,” Carrick said in an interview with the BBC, highlighting his long-standing relationship with the player that began to develop when Mainoo was just 13 or 14 years old. “I started working with him when I was doing my coaching courses, and I have always watched him evolve. He has been part of some of my previous experiences here at the club, and what he has been doing in such crucial moments is really incredible.”
Mainoo, who did not make a single start in the Premier League under the previous management, is now shining as a regular starter in every match since Carrick’s arrival. The coach praised Mainoo’s ability to quickly adapt to the demanding level of professional football. “We forget how young he still is. I have always been a big fan of watching his game and what he is capable of. The decision to put him on the pitch was not difficult,” Carrick continued.
Carrick also emphasized that, while there are areas where Mainoo can improve, the focus right now is to allow the young player to find his rhythm and confidence. “We are not pressuring him with too many instructions. Just a few tips here and there. We believe in what he is. He is a fantastic footballer and has tremendous talent,” Carrick said.
With the next challenge being an away match against Everton on Monday, Mainoo will be determined to continue impressing. England manager Thomas Tuchel is keeping an eye on standout players, especially with the World Cup approaching next summer. If Mainoo maintains his current form, it is almost certain he will be part of the Three Lions’ squad.
The future looks bright for Kobbie Mainoo under Carrick’s guidance, and his meteoric rise at Manchester United is a testament not only to his talent but also to the new coach’s vision in shaping the next generation of the club’s stars.
