Middlesbrough have shattered their transfer record by securing a sensational deal for Tottenham Hotspur striker Will Lankshear, with the total package potentially soaring to an eye-watering £20 million. This bold move signals a major statement of intent from the Championship club as they target a return to the Premier League.
Lankshear, just 21 years old, made headlines during his loan spell at Oxford United last season, where he netted 12 goals and contributed two assists over 47 matches in all competitions. His performances have caught the attention of top clubs, but it is Middlesbrough who have swooped decisively to land the highly rated forward.
According to BBC Sport, the initial transfer fee stands at £10 million, with a further £10 million tied to performance-based add-ons. The deal represents the most expensive signing in Middlesbrough’s history and underscores the club’s ambition under their current leadership.
Lankshear’s journey to this landmark move began at Sheffield United, before he was snapped up by Tottenham in 2022. He quickly established himself as a standout performer in Spurs’ youth ranks, earning his senior debut against Ferencvaros in October 2024. The young striker wasted little time making an impression at the top level, scoring his first senior goal soon after. However, his early Champions League experience was not without drama, as he received a red card in his subsequent appearance away at Galatasaray.
The structure of the deal reflects Middlesbrough’s confidence in Lankshear’s potential to make an immediate impact. The substantial add-ons are believed to be linked to key milestones and incentives, demonstrating the club’s willingness to invest heavily in the future of their attacking line.
Lankshear’s arrival is expected to energize Middlesbrough’s squad and fanbase alike. With his proven goal-scoring record in League One and glimpses of brilliance in European competition, the striker will be under the spotlight as he prepares for the next chapter of his career in the Championship.
