Danilo moved from Nottingham Forest to Botafogo in the summer of 2025, signing a four-year contract. During his time at the English club, he made 62 appearances and contributed ten goals and assists before suffering an ankle fracture that halted his progress. Botafogo invested 22 million euros, a record amount for the Brazilian club, to bring him back to the country. Since then, the midfielder has excelled in the Brazilian league, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 12 matches, earning him a place in the Brazilian national team for the World Cup.

Danilo's performance has not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Newcastle emerging as one of the main interested parties since May, at a time when Manchester United also expressed interest.
