Newcastle United stands out in the race to secure Danilo, the Brazilian midfielder seen as a replacement for Bruno Guimarães, a target for Arsenal. The player, currently at Botafogo, has attracted interest from several clubs in the Premier League, but the Magpies appear to be better positioned to secure his signing.

Danilo moved from Nottingham Forest to Botafogo in the summer of 2025, signing a four-year contract. During his time at the English club, he made 62 appearances and contributed ten goals and assists before suffering an ankle fracture that halted his progress. Botafogo invested 22 million euros, a record amount for the Brazilian club, to bring him back to the country. Since then, the midfielder has excelled in the Brazilian league, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 12 matches, earning him a place in the Brazilian national team for the World Cup.

Danilo's performance has not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Newcastle emerging as one of the main interested parties since May, at a time when Manchester United also expressed interest. However, with the signing of Andrey Santos and the possible arrival of Youri Tielemans, the Red Devils seem less committed to acquiring him. The Brazilian midfielder recently rejected an offer from Zenit Saint Petersburg, reinforcing the possibility of returning to the Premier League. Chelsea and Arsenal are also in the mix, but Newcastle is being pointed out as the “strongest” club in the race, according to the Brazilian newspaper Fogao Net.

Newcastle sees Danilo as the ideal replacement for Bruno Guimarães, who could be heading to Arsenal, according to reports. However, the transfer will not be straightforward, with Turkey's Galatasaray also showing interest in the Botafogo player. The coach of the Brazilian club has already admitted that it will be “very difficult” to keep Danilo, whose contract runs until June 2029, giving Botafogo a strong position to demand a high fee.

The fierce competition in the transfer market leaves open the possibility of Newcastle securing the signing of the midfielder. The upcoming transfer window will be crucial for Danilo's future and could determine the direction of the Magpies' midfield for the coming seasons.
