The search by Manchester United for Rafael Leão may have taken an unexpected turn. The Red Devils are looking for a new left winger in this transfer window, but priority seems to be shifting towards strengthening the midfield, especially following Casemiro’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season. The pressure to find a quality attacker is even more intense, as Marcus Rashford’s departure to Barcelona, where he is in great form, has left a difficult gap to fill.

Recently, Leão’s name emerged as a potential solution to United’s offensive woes. However, fresh information regarding his situation at AC Milan indicates that the 26-year-old Portuguese forward is far from considering a move. According to journalist Daniele Longo, cited by Caught Offside, Leão is happy in Milan and has no intention of leaving in the short term. With a contract that runs until 2028, Milan appears determined to keep him, as the club plans to build its future around the player’s talent.

Speculations regarding a potential transfer for a fee of €75 to €80 million now seem somewhat exaggerated, as Milan is preparing a contract extension to ensure that Leão remains with the team. Throughout this season, he has demonstrated his versatility on the pitch, primarily playing as a centre-forward, and has already recorded nine goals and two assists in 21 matches across all competitions.

The performance of United’s attack this season has been notable, especially with the investments made before the start of the season, which included the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha. This effort has already borne fruit, as only Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea have scored more goals in the Premier League than the Red Devils, who have a total of 47 goals, despite having one game in hand.

Mbeumo, in particular, has stood out, with 10 goals and two assists in 22 matches. Despite an attacking line that is already showing signs of effectiveness, the need for a speedy winger, especially with the departures of Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho, is evident. Rafael Leão would fit perfectly into the desired profile, but the prospects of a transfer are becoming increasingly bleak, with the player appearing more inclined to continue his journey at San Siro.

With the situation evolving rapidly, United fans may have to look for other options, while Leão remains a prized asset in AC Milan’s squad, which will do everything to keep him shining in Serie A. The transfer saga surrounding Leão continues, but the current trend suggests that his happiness in Milan could be an insurmountable obstacle to the Red Devils’ dreams.
