Robertson reveals what went wrong for Liverpool against Wolves.

The performance of Liverpool in the recent clash against the Wolverhampton Wanderers left much to be desired, and Andy Robertson did not hesitate to admit that his team’s display was simply insufficient. With a 2-1 result that proved costly for the Reds, the Scottish left-back made a call for a reaction in an important upcoming FA Cup match, promising that the team needs to show a very different face.

At Molineux, despite dominating possession for long periods, Liverpool left empty-handed, culminating in a dramatic defeat after a goal from André that was deflected in stoppage time. This final moment did not go unnoticed, and various analyses were made around it. Stephen Warnock, a former player, highlighted a crucial mistake by Curtis Jones when trying to play out from the back, stating: “It was a mistake by Curtis Jones – he made a pass to Alisson and Alisson is never going to have any momentum in the play.”

Leon Osman, a former midfielder for Everton, also commented on Virgil van Dijk’s frustration during the play, noting that the Dutch captain seemed bothered by the pressure exerted by Rio Ngumoha on André before the shot that decided the game. However, Robertson believes that the team’s problems go far beyond a single moment in the game.

In statements to BBC Sport, the Scottish international acknowledged that the intensity of his team’s performance was entirely insufficient to win in the Premier League. “The levels of performance weren’t good enough on Tuesday, there’s no escaping that, you don’t win many football games playing like we did,” Robertson said. The feeling that the team only managed to increase the intensity too late was evident in his words. The 31-year-old defender added: “I think we probably put intensity into the game a little too late.”

He also described the final phase of the match as chaotic, where both teams threw themselves forward in search of a winning goal. “I felt the first half lacked intensity and things like that, then in the last 10 minutes, the game turned into a basketball match,” he noted.

Despite the frustration with the result, Robertson did not fail to recognize the quality of Wolverhampton, which, according to him, is much greater than its current position in the table. “Under this new manager, we know Wolves are competitive. They’re not the Wolves that are in 20th place in the league,” the player commented.

Now, Liverpool has an opportunity to redeem themselves almost immediately with a rematch in the FA Cup at the same stadium. The team’s number 26 believes that the focus since Tuesday is on producing a much better display in this new match. To conclude, Robertson emphasized: “We know we need to play a lot better than we did the other night to get something from the game… and we hope we can show that on Friday night.”

Fans are eagerly awaiting a strong response from the team, which certainly does not want to let another opportunity slip away.
