After the goalless draw between Lazio and Cagliari, Maurizio Sarri did not hesitate to express his frustration with his team’s performance. Lazio, which has not won in three rounds in Serie A, has now accumulated two draws and one defeat, leaving fans concerned about the lack of offensive effectiveness. This match, marked by an unsatisfactory display, was further exacerbated by the serious injury to midfielder Nicolò Rovella, who, according to Sarri, “fractured his collarbone” during the game.

“I was upset because I didn’t like many of the choices made by my team. This is a difficult place to play; Juventus and Roma have lost here recently,” Sarri stated to Sky Sport Italia, reflecting on the need for a more dynamic game. The coach criticized his team’s approach, stating that they should have moved the ball more quickly, rather than trying to control the game in a slower manner. “It was a contested game, with few goal opportunities for both sides. We were dangerous a few times down the left in the last 20 minutes, but we should have done that earlier,” he added.

The problem of the lack of goals became evident, especially with Daniel Maldini playing as a false nine and struggling to make an impact. Sarri, however, showed awareness of the team’s limitations, mentioning that they have been unbeaten away from home since November, but acknowledging that the scarcity of away victories is a concern. “I can’t ask for more from these guys,” Sarri stated, pointing to the limited characteristics of certain players, such as Maldini, who finds it difficult to exploit spaces.

The severity of the situation was heightened by Rovella’s exit from the field, leaving with an ice pack on his shoulder. “It’s a cursed season, for reasons I won’t recap. Today we were without six injured players and, unfortunately, Rovella fractured his collarbone. It’s a constant emergency situation,” lamented the coach. Lazio was already facing the absence of key players such as Pedro, Mario Gila, Toma Basic, Manuel Lazzari, and Samuel Gigot, while Alessio Romagnoli returned from suspension.

With pressure mounting and the team dealing with a series of injuries, Sarri will need to find quick solutions to turn around Lazio’s situation, which finds itself in a crisis of results and performance. The next challenge will be crucial in determining whether the team can find its way back to victory and regain the confidence of the fans.
