In short
  • Thomas Tuchel is unsure whether Jude Bellingham will start England's Nations League clash with Czechia on Tuesday.
  • Bellingham impressed in England's 3-2 loss to Spain, providing an assist for Anthony Gordon and winning a penalty.
  • Tuchel stressed caution over Bellingham's fitness, saying England will not put the midfielder at any risk.

England boss Thomas Tuchel remains uncertain about starting Jude Bellingham in Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League showdown against Czechia at the Fortuna Arena. The Real Madrid midfielder impressed in England’s narrow 3-2 loss to Spain at Wembley on Saturday, where he delivered a pinpoint assist for Anthony Gordon and earned a penalty that Harry Kane ultimately missed.

Despite Bellingham’s influential performance, Tuchel expressed caution regarding the midfielder’s fitness. “I would love to have him four times on the pitch,” Tuchel told The Telegraph. “The concern is that he hasn’t done it this season in this tight period. We will need to check with the physios. We will not put Jude at any risk.” The England manager emphasized Bellingham’s fiery playing style, noting, “It’s better if he plays with a bit of rage. He gets better if that happens. It’s what he does. I think sometimes he is looking for these moments to get his fire going.”

The former Birmingham City academy product has battled injuries last season, necessitating careful workload management. With Bellingham’s starting spot hanging in the balance, Tuchel may opt for Morgan Gibbs-White or Morgan Rogers if the midfielder is deemed unfit for the Czechia clash.

Real Madrid will be eagerly watching Bellingham’s recovery, especially given the recent injury setbacks to Ibrahima Konate and Kylian Mbappe. The club hopes their key England international returns fully fit after the international break, ready to make a decisive impact in the demanding season ahead.
