The defeat of Manchester United to Newcastle, by 2-1, at St James’ Park, left fans in shock. Michael Carrick’s team, still searching for its identity, found itself in trouble against an agile and determined Newcastle side. Below, we present the player ratings following a performance that raised more questions than answers.
Starting with the goalkeeping position, Senne Lammens had a performance that left much to be desired, receiving a rating of 5. The young goalkeeper intervened when necessary, almost saving Anthony Gordon’s penalty, but could not prevent the goal that sealed his team’s defeat.
On the other side of the pitch, right-back Noussair Mazraoui proved solid, ensuring a competent and controlled defense, which earned him a score of 6. Kobbie Mainoo struggled to cope with Newcastle’s robust midfielders, losing Gordon during a corner kick, which almost cost a goal. Despite this, he made a shot that forced Aaron Ramsdale into a save, earning a rating of 5. Bruno Fernandes, as always, was an influential figure, providing a masterful assist for Casemiro’s goal and creating several opportunities in the second half, deserving a rating of 6.5.
On the other hand, Bryan Mbeumo was a shadow of what was expected, struggling to make an impact on the game and receiving a disappointing rating of 3. Matheus Cunha, in contrast, was the most dynamic attacker in the team, constantly pressing and causing problems for the opposing defense, securing a rating of 6.5.
Benjamin Sesko was practically invisible on the field, with a performance that earned him a rating of 3. Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte both maintained an average level, receiving scores of 5, but without standing out. Amad, despite being direct, failed to make a significant impact and ended up with a 5.5. Finally, Joshua Zirkzee, who came on as a substitute, brought some energy to the game and impressed with a powerful shot, yet still received a rating of 6. Tyrell Malacia, on the other hand, had a lackluster performance, being easily outpaced by Osula in Newcastle’s decisive goal, and received the lowest score of the night: 4.
